Isis Nyong'o Madison has made her mark scaling media and digital businesses across Africa over the past decade. At 35, Isis has been named as one of the ‘Top 40 Women under 40′ in Kenya where she is based. She is the daughter of an American of Russian descent and the late Professor Aggrey Nyong’o from Kenya.
Her parents met at a university in the United States. As a public health officer, her mother dedicated most of her time and career serving underprivileged communities in Kenya and the United States of America and Isis and her brothers spent a lot of their time around Kibera helping the poor.
Isis has always worked in media and tech space in Africa. Today, she is one of the youngest and most vibrant technology female managers in Africa. Isis is focused on investing in the technology space to grow this nascent industry across the continent.
As a young African leader in the tech industry, she developed the marketing strategy for Kenya’s first online recruitment service, ‘MyJobsEye’ before moving on to work for MTV.
Working for Google (Isis Nyong’o Madison is rising higher in the innovative tech industry)
There, Isis gained extensive media and tech experience while driving the launch of MTV Networks in Africa where she was responsible for commercial relationships including distribution and sales. Next stop was Google (as a Business Development Manager for Google’s operation in Africa) where she helped develop the company’s mobile content strategy for Africa.
In February 2011, InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising network, announced the appointment of Isis Nyong’o as Vice President and Managing Director, Africa.
Upon her appointment at InMobi, this statement was released, by the company “….with her wide sector and regional experience, Isis makes a valuable addition to the InMobi family and we look forward to having her on board during what we believe will be one of the most exciting periods in the history of Africa’s telecom sector,” said Naveen Tewari, Founder & CEO, InMobi.
Prior to all the achievements, education was a fore runner of where she is today. Her parents’ academic discipline and work helped shape her life. From attending the Hillcrest School in Nairobi, Isis went on to attain degrees from Stanford University and Harvard Business School where she was president of the Africa Business Club.
Now, the Stanford university graduate and Harvard Business school graduate works as the Vice-President and Managing Director for Africa of InMobi, an innovative global mobile advertising that help advertisers reach mobile internet users. Her life’s passion lies in bringing innovative and fresh ideas to Africa in media & tech.
One of Africa's Top 20 Youngest Power Women
Isis Nyong'o Madison has since April, 2013, being married to Christopher Madison following their engagement. They met early in the year 2012 when Chris moved to Kenya to open an ad agency. Isis says “Less than one week after he arrived, we were at a friend’s party and saw each other across the room. We got introduced and as they say, the rest is history.”
She has been named as one of Africa's Top 20 Youngest Power Women by Forbes, Kenya's Top 40 Women under 40, Top 100 Dynamic Women changing Africa by Arise magazine as well as IT News Africa's Top 10 Women in ICT. She is frequently featured by the Africa media including, Al Jazeera, BBC, Nation Newspaper, NTV, Standard Newspaper and UP Magazine amongst others.
Isis is a founding member of the Kenya chapter of New Faces New Voices which aims to increase women leaders in the country. She serves on the board of both the Africa Cancer Foundation and the Mango Tree Orphan Trust and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2012.
Finally, speaking on her appointment at InMobi Isis said, “A move to InMobi seemed a natural ‘next step’ for me.”
