“Teleka and I met online. She did everything to the ‘t,’” Ismael told Target 8. “She was a perfectionist. Teleka was very true hearted when it came to her faith and her belief in God was rock solid.”
Ismael went on to say her belief in God may have unintentionally masked deeper issues.
“She started to have delusions, paranoia. She started to hear voices.”
“They just covered up and pressured what she was fighting so much. Maybe the voices that she heard wasn’t God. Maybe the voices that she heard…pointed to a serious condition,” he regretfully expressed.
Despite trying to save their marriage through things like marriage counseling, Ismael adds that their union fell apart partially due to his pressuring her to seek professional help.
“I think that Teleka had this fear of first, being branded with a mental illness. Second, the practical fear of losing her career.”

On the night of her disappearance, Teleka was described as agitated, afraid and driving erratically—behaviors that Ismael says are not out of character for Teleka when she experienced her delusions.
“I believe it’s a serious concern because everyday that she’s still missing, it’s a danger. This is a tragedy. I don’t think she’s hiding somewhere. I think she’s being held against her will…or even worst. It’s horrible to think that something bad…may have happened to her.”
“I think it’s really important that we bring awareness. This is not just some doctor that’s trying to get away. This is someone that was suffering.”
Teleka’s family maintains that they are unaware of her struggles with mental illness.
Taleka was married to Patrick from 2006 to 2011,said she also suffered from what he suspects was a serious mental illness. She has been missing since December 5th 2013.
