In today's society where social networking seems to be the order of the day, you may find your face plays a major role in your everyday life.
Back in time, before Facebook and it's friends people only saw each other when they were able to and pictures and video's were rare and reserved for more special occasions.
Today's technology encourages society to become obsessed with their personal appearance. It results in the 'me me me mentality'. "Here's my face", "here's my new hair", "here is my six pack", "here is my curves","even here is my shopping receipt".. I think you know what I mean.
Whilst I have to agree that Instagram and Facebook can be quite fun and have their benefits, I still have to note that these sites and a lot of similar 'let's over share' sites are responsible for the distorted image of beauty many women and men are struggling with today.
I'm not saying that this is a new thing, the image issue has definitely been around since the beginning of man, but I am highlighting that it is getting worse. Never in anytime have women and men alike been more vain and self absorbed as they are in 2013.
This is worrying because many people are depressed and they can't even identify that their over use of social media is the root cause of this depression.
There is nothing as painful as feeling that you are not good enough and yet constantly comparing yourself to thousands of other people who use a million and one filters to post out pictures they have picked apart for hours.
Well I have a message for everyone reading this, and I really hope that it sinks in. I really don't care that I haven't seen you but I guarantee you that you are beautiful. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. This is not my opinion, this is a fact that God has confirmed.
If you Google successful people according to the world you will sooner realise that these people, Barack Obama, Warren Buffet, Oprah Winfrey, Arianna Huffington, Aliko Dangote, Martha Stewart etc did not achieve what they did on the merits of their looks. Had they spent hours feeling unworthy and not good looking enough they would ever be who they are today. Focus your energy on your destiny!
If it takes a few months, years away from social media to re-coup then so bit it. Make a decision to break away and don't look back. You owe it to your happiness. Decided today that you are beautifully made for your purpose and go out and be the best YOU that you can be!
I pray this speaks to someone today!
Love,
Chidinma O.
