Sunday Sermon: Things Women Do Wrong in Church

Women are so close to God. I always say it that women have very special place in the heart of God. I have also realized that women have more results when they pray. This is why I encourage every woman to learn to pray. I don’t believe there is anything I can’t get from God as a woman except I don’t call that a serious issue.

We are very close to God and are ready to make sacrifices when it comes to religion. But the truth is that in the midst of our sacrifices, there are still things we do wrong. Those are the things I want to take your heart to because in most cases we do them out of ignorance.

SEDUCTION AND DISTRACTION:

Fashion has gone to a different level and it is unfortunate a lot of women are being carried away in ignorance. Clothes are made to suit different occassions.There are clothes for parties, club, school, office work, market, parks and churches. But the problem we are having in our time is that women now dress without knowledge.

Women now wear any kind of clothe to the church. I have seen someone wear something that should be left for Friday night to church. We daily lament the rate of immorality going on in the church. We blame the pastors and priests for sleeping with their female members. We do all these forgetting sometimes that they are human beings, men with blood running through their veins.

Women are now agents sent from the pit of hell. They dress so sexy and semi-nude to church. On getting to the church, because they have lost their sense of womanhood, they go straight to the front seat and cross their legs with the entire breast out.

Some of them even join the choir and claim to be too spiritual during worship.Thy cry so much that you begin to take them for Virgin Mary. But the truth is that most of the cries are for disappointments while others are for the pastor. They wear very tight clothe with their breast firmly fitted into the bra. Hmmmm, our pastors, need serious prayers because what is before them is greater than they are.

Some turn themselves to masquerades as they are coming to church. You keep wondering if it is church service or “Ofala” festival. Some women will tie their “gele”in such a way that people sitting behind them will murmur from the moment they walk in till the service is over. They cover everywhere with their big head gear and hat. There should be moderation in the church.


What about make-up. It is as if there is a competition for the best make-up between Iman and Sleek.Ladies, there should be some level of decency. I tell people that whatever they cannot wear to a corporate or management meeting should not be worn to the church. Likewise, whatever make-up you cannot wear to the office should never be worn into the church.

GOSSIP:

Why is it that it has become a second nature for women to spread rumours.Everywhere you have women, there is bound to be gossip-office, home, clubs, etc.We have also taken it into the church.Women, instead of concentrating and doing what should be done in church, they are busy trying to know what is happening to everybody in the church. This is what has made the church the easiest place to meet people, know them and fight them.

Women have always been the one dragging their husband from one church to the other. They keep finding fault with every leader .They tell a lot of lies against fellow women and the leaders. They are the ones to know when a pastor is sleeping with another church member. They even know how men sleep with their wives and how they eat at home. This is why I don’t allow church members come to my house.

It is time women begin to reason like human beings. It is time we get busy with making something tangible out of our lives and not spend time on other people and issues that have nothing to do with us.

ADULTERY:

Whenever we talk about adultery in the church, we are quick to think about pastors and their female members. But there is this type that exists between members. Churches hold night vigil on Fridays. Some members of the church use the days to engage in so many evil. How can someone leave her house to go the church and have sex? It is sad but still true.

This kind of situation is more rampant among youths and choristers in churches. Most of them use their rehearsals for such. So many young girls while singing in church with one eye closed use the other eye to communicate with men. So many women have lost their husbands in church. I remember years back when his girlfriend will come and sit next to me in church and then as the service goes on, she leaves to the toilet and there he follows her. This was happening in the church.

Recently in Port Harcourt, I came across a very big church auditorium. The founder is a woman who prophesied to the man that the wife is a witch. This man left his wife and then got married to the pastor. Even if the other woman is a witch as she claimed, what was she supposed to do as a pastor of that congregation?

CHILDREN:

Most times we neglect children when it comes to religion. A lot of women are so religious and committed to the church to the point that their families suffer. Some women go to church every morning, afternoon and evening. This is because you are jobless. Even if you are jobless, your family should be your highest paid job. Dont transfer all your love to the priest thereby making your very own family complains.

Some women are now slaves to their pastors. Dont get me wrong. It is good to serve your religious leader and honour him. I encourage people to do that, but I also believe there should be a limit to it all. How do you bring up your kids and keep your home when you live in church all year round. Remember those preachers are in their own business and ministry, get back into yours.

There is also the other group that is so religious but they don’t transfer anything like morals to their children. They go ahead feeling they are still kids and will get to understand someday. Hear this; anything you fail to inculcate in a child before the age of seven may be very difficult to pass down. Take your children to church, but in all these, never forget they have to study and become responsible adults. Dont jeopardize their future because you believe they don’t need all those worldly things.

PRIDE:

When we talk about pride, we talk about women. A man may have the entire world and still remain humble. Most men want to hide their identity and status, but the women are always the ones announcing them.Anyway, that is our nature. The woman, the Bible says, is the glory of the man.

But when it comes to religion, are we supposed to bring pride in? Some women walk into the church very late and expect people to get up for them to have a very comfortable place to sit. There are some departments you go into and find out that they are left for the low class members of the church. I remember having a friend ask why I chose the cleaning and children’s departments in church. She reminded me that there are departments that benefit my status like the helps department.

Women must learn to put away class and serve in church. I was impressed the day I met a high court judge serving as an usher in church. There is joy in sacrificial service. Challenge people by coming down from where you are and touching lives the positive way. We don’t want to know who you are. Some women don’t want anyone correcting them in church. They insult ushers once they tell them where to sit or how to pack their cars.

I remember an incidence that happened a long time ago in church. The pastor’s wife was pushed into slapping a female church worker just because she beat a little boy who was rude to her during Sunday school. At other times, a pastor was summoned and queried for preaching the truth. This pastor just preached a very good sermon. At the end f the service, a woman who felt touched by the sermon went to the senior pastor and threatened to leave should that repeat again. Who are you woman? A mere dust.
